When you register for classes at SHAC, you will be asked to create an account with our new class registration service, SportsEngine. With this service, you can now view different class schedules, contact the instructors of a class, and access program/class information directly from the SportsEngine Motion mobile app!
Once you have created a SportsEngine account during the checkout process for a SHAC Center class, you will be able to access your account information on your computer or through the SportsEngine apps listed below:

Our caregiver support group and memory café offers a supportive, welcoming environment for caregivers and their loved ones who are experiencing memory loss due to Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Join self defense instructor, Dan Prendergast, on April 24th from 11am-1pm, for an in person self defense workshop for girls and women ages 16 and up. This class will help you learn and practice de-escalation techniques, situational awareness, as well as repeatable methods to empower you to protect yourself from common attacks.
The Rensselaer County Redtails is a composite youth mountain bike club in the New York Chapter of National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA).
The Redtails practice and train out of the SHAC Center.
The club is open to all 6-12th grade students within Rensselaer County, NY and surrounding areas.

Led by instructor Jean Tripi and assisted by other experienced sewers, this 6 session course will help new beginners familiarize themselves with the world of sewing. Participants will learn how to use their own sewing machines, perform routine maintenance on the machines, construct shorts or pants with elastic waistbands, and a top with set-in sleeves.
Your own sewing machine will be required to attend
Yoga instructor, Keri Stern, will lead a 10 week yoga class for ages 16 and up. On Tuesdays, January 28th-April 1st, 2025 from 5:30pm-6:30pm. From the Registration page, you may choose an individual class or attend the full 10 week course.
Join our group led by experienced Yoga instructor, Kim Favro, and enjoy the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of less strenuous Chair Yoga at the SHAC Center. This class will take place on Tuesdays from 5:15pm-6pm from April 8th to May 27th. Attend all 8 weeks or choose an individual day to participate.

Each session focuses on different muscle groups, including arms, legs, core, and plyometrics, to promote well-rounded development.

Karl Michael is leading a story writing workshop for creative individuals 18 years and older. This workshop will be held on Thursdays from 1pm-3pm.

Instructor Joe Behson will be conducting a treadmill walking class for adults and seniors that will take place Fridays from 11am-12pm.
Volunteers Maggie and Marcia are offering a tech help class for seniors on Fridays from 10am-12pm (by appointment only). The instructors will help set up email accounts, provide tips for texting, and more. Please bring in any smartphones or tablets that you would like assistance with.
Instructor John Slyer will help lead an informational class about the basics of strength training and some basic exercises you can perform yourself. Strength training will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10am-12pm at SHAC.
Would you like to join a Knitting, Quilting, & Fiber Arts club with others from the area? Instructor Marcia Middleton will host a club for creative individuals to meet and craft. This class will take place each Monday from 10am-12pm.
SHAC's Tennis coach, Joe Behson, will guide senior players through the basics of tennis while using a a foam ball . Class will be held on Fridays from 10am-11am.
Aikido is a non-competitive martial art from Japan that focuses on using an opponent’s energy and flowing, graceful movements to redirect the opponent into a throw or a pin. In this way, it is an art that utilizes movement and energy to defuse a hostile situation.

Learn simple recipes and cooking basics with instructor, Candylee Budesheim. Cooking class will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-12pm.

Cycling coach and instructor, John Slyer, will be leading an indoor cycling class. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-11am and in the afternoons from 5pm-7pm starting April 8th. Please make sure to select which which time slot you prefer when registering.

Join retired teacher, Debi Michael in an open art studio at the SHAC Center where you can bring your own art supplies and have a space to practice your painting, drawing, and other art-making abilities. This will take place on Thursdays from 12:30pm-4pm.
